Jonora

Wood Elf Rogue

Background

From as early as she can remember, Jonora was a child slave in Shadycreek Run for an organisation that took in unwanted children from the city under the pretense of being an orphanage. The combination of scarce food and hard labour stunted her growth and left her frail and sickly in appearance, but not in mind. Jonora's cold, steely outlook was forged by the generations of human children she saw recruited to ultimately die of the intense work, or be disposed of once they had outlived their purpose. She soon discovered that in order to survive she had to learn how to steal from her captors, which she quickly became adept at. The only time she was caught was when she tried to pickpocket a well-dressed high elf, who Jonora later discovered was the owner of the orphanage. His name was Davin Tolamain, and was particularly sly and cutthroat even for a citizen of Shadycreek Run, though always appearing calm and patient on the surface. Davin was a puppeteer, pulling strings to further his own vast wealth and control, but never lifting a finger of his own. He saw potential in Jonora, took her in from the orphanage and had her trained in the arts of thievery and deception in order to carry out 'errands' for him. Jonora naively believed that she had worked my way into his confidence, but soon discovered that she was merely one more fly in his well-stocked web. During one particularly high-profile heist, Jonora was caught and imprisoned. Davin managed to have her freed, but considered her indebted to him for doing this. She was banished from the city and ordered to return within 100 years with a considerable fortune to repay him with, otherwise he would have her hunted down and tortured.

Over 90 years have now passed. Jonora is no closer to completing her task, and she is more fearful of her fate than ever. Most of these years she spent living in the wild, foolishly believing herself outside of Davin’s reach. But in the last decade she has been sent numerous reminders, often in the form of young assassins who were never intended to be able to complete their task. Having little time remaining, Jonora now seeks to fulfil her imposed contract by putting her life on the line to hunt for treasure and relics. If she dies in her adventures, at least she will be free from her bonds.
